Although there as some efforts in this area, like the Synthetic Biology Open Language, these initiatives need to be more global. Also, these do not necessarily have to be rigid ontologies or data formats, they can also be guidelines on how to represent protocols and measurements in the form of machine-readable tables that can facilitate communication between scientists.
