Getting the incentives to standardize aligned seems to be a perennial problem with standards, and there are often incentives for people to not standardize: standardisation is disruptive and the implementation cost can be very high. On the other hand, standards facilitate commerce and engagement, and allow to build more reliable supply chains. Do companies need to invest on standards? If the company wants to apply IP on their developments, how can they be global standards? Also, how can we develop standards that are flexible enough to fit everyone’s needs? Each company wants to do things different ways, and one of the challenges is to find pre-competitive spaces to create standards.
